A.   Course Description
English 102 is designed to sharpen your critical analysis skills.  You will be
1) reading scholarly essays and watching films in order to understand cultural stories and the meaning they bring to our lives;
2) summarizing content;
3) writing critical analyses of other writers' responses to these stories; and
4) writing expository and persuasive syntheses, finding your own voice within collective dialog and defending your position within collective debate.

E. Policies and Procedures
Required Attendance.  Final grade is lowered one/third letter grade for every absence in excess of three for English 102a and 2 for English 101i.

Tardiness.  3 tardies count as 1 absence.

Submission Deadlines.  All work is due when you walk into class.  Late work will be graded down one full letter grade for each session late.

Submission Guidelines.  Any work not in compliance with MLA Standard will be returned unread and be graded as late.  Please pay attention.

Submission Package.  Manuscripts will be submitted in the pocket folders

E. Plagiarism
All work turned in must be your own creation and properly cited. Any student plagiarizing will automatically fail my class and be turned over to Dean Onion for further academic discipline. Plagiarism is a federal offense and punishable by law.
